Symptom: When starting the car and the headlights go through their up, down and side to side check, my driver-side headlight doesn’t move. It remains in-place.

 

Solution:

There is no guesswork when it comes to Xenon as every everything is extremely expensive.
The codes must be read in the left Xenon control module.

 

You will need a scanner, not just a code reader , able to read all modules, like: Autel Scanner MD802

 

Or a Foxwell NT530, it will pull the codes.

 

 

For if I can replace with two halogen headlamps and it will not throw any codes, It will be a nightmare doing it as the wiring and sockets are entirely different.

Which tool will reset Jaguar XK X150 4.2 2006 engine light on?

Car model: Jaguar XK X150 4.2 2006 with hundreds of miles

Car problem: I started it and it was lumpy and then cut out with the engine management light on. I waited half an hour and it started and ran fine.

Symptoms:

I haven’t used the car since then but I started it a few times to see how it was and a couple of times I got the key symbol in the message centre with ‘Smart key not found, insert key etc’ message. Not everyu time, but sometimes.T he manual says if the battery is low you need to insert the key in the slot under the armrest. So maybe I just need to have the battery checked and replaced if necessary. Another thing to try anyway.

Possible reason and solution:

Engine management issue could have been a lo wish battery through lack of use or an old battery.

The manual and smart key battery low is the key fob battery.

A low main 12v battery on an XK will give numerous and diverse errors until the battery is fully charged or replaced.

Jaguar XK diagnostic tool to use:

1. I agree that you want to check battery voltage and also keep her on a maintainer. Ctek seems to be the Jag user choice but there are others certainly. Many seeming unrelated gremlins disappear with a fully charged battery.

To your original question, there are two handhelds. iCarsoft makes the i930 and LRII that will work on your model. Foxwell NT530 Jaguar scanner also makes one that will work. These are all handheld models that will read body and chassis codes as well as engine codes and run around 160eur. For the shade tree mechanic these will suffice. They will only read the first 5 digits of the DTC however, not all 7. But that’s enough for 90% of your problems. These units will clear codes too. You are right that they will easily pay for themselves if they save you just one service visit. You have a Ford built model and they are a solid car with a relatively simple mechanical design and a typically bulletproof engine, reliable transmission.

I keep my adapter in the car as it can be useful if something happens when you’re out and about.

2. Torque Pro app running with an Android phone

Torque Pro is a great app but it only read standard OBD module codes, so you won’t see some of the extended/Jaguar-specific stuff. it will only read engine codes (5 digit) but for $20 for the app and the BT dongle, it’s a cheap option and lets you also see live data (which I believe all the handhelds do as well).

3. If you are full on, want it all kind of DIY kind of guy, JLR SDD is the Jaguar diagnostic tool. This will get you everything a Jag mechanic has. Primary differences between the Jaguar’s OEM software/ hardware and the handhelds are that you will need SDD to program any modules, if required, and SDD will read all 7 digits which further drills down on troubleshooting. This is a laptop based system vs the handheld. Total set up for a quality Jaguar approved unit including laptop is about 800eur uk.That said, programming modules is rare. I’ve done it a few times but was for retrofitting 2010 equipment on my 07, not standard stuff. Also, the world is full of SDD Chinese knockoffs and hacked software so you want to get both from reputable retailers.

4. I already had an Autel Maxidiag Elite which covers loads of different cars including the Jaguars, and after a flat(ish) battery episode on my 2010 X150 I thought I’d give it a try. It happily read and cleared all the faults and covers all systems, not just the engine but does cost about £160 from fleabay.

Aim: Want to purchase a BMW E90 OBD2 reader device that also lets me reset codes.

1. bimmergeeks ProTool app: Failure

shit doesn’t work.

generic OBD2 scanners DO NOT WORK. P-codes are nearly useless for diagnosing cars. Honestly the only thing generic OBD2 code readers are good for is to check emission monitor readiness and to see if someone reset the check engine light. THATS IT!

2. ELM327 Bluetooth: Failure

It won’t work. Has to be their adapter – the reason is the QC of most of the generic adapters is poor. Apparently like 70% of the packets were getting dropped, so they decided not to support them. it kind of sucks (I have 2 useless bluetooth adapters), but it also prevents people from bricking modules using a flaky adapter. Fortunately it’s about the same cost as all but the cheapest ones, but those probably don’t work anyway.

3. BMW INPA or ISTA Software (Free) on a windows laptop and a €15 K+D Can cable.

Ista D and Inpa toghtether will do more than anything else.

Ista D is what BMW used in there dealerships for years.

Inpa is there Engineering development tool.

You can do any type of coding with Inpa well beyond the canned

routines you get with things like Carly.

Ista D is like having a shop manual with guided trouble shooting. It also has schematics and mechanical diagrams

its something like 50 gigs of space on a disk.

The catch is you have to know your way around a PC and it you have

Apple products you have to run these programs inside a Virtual

machine. It will also require effort to set up and learn to steer either

of these.

Ista D diagnostics and guided troubleshooting all in English

this like having a shop manual on your laptop.

Parts and wiring diagrams exploded views etc etc.

This is a big program that was developed for dealerships and used

Foxwell NT530 Scanner loaded with the BMW software (€177) (Software for other makes are available for download at $60 a pop) is the ONLY low-cost tool I’ve ever seen that support multiple OEMs. The expensive, professional-level scanners typically provide access to most, or all, manufacturers OEM-specific information, but those scanners also typically cost $2-5K.

The BMW-software for the NT530 is EXCELLENT, and provides access to not only the engine computer, but virtually ALL computers on the car – Engine, transmission, brakes, ABS, Traction Control, Air Bags, Audio, Navigation, Climate Control, Locks, Alarm, etc. etc.

It is an EXCELLENT scanner, and mine has already paid for itself many times over in the ~9 months I’ve owned it.

5. Autel MaxiCOM MK908Pro or Maxidas DS808 ($600 to $2500). This is a professional level diagnostics tool that mechanics and repair facilities will use. It does everything that BMW ISTA/INPA and Foxwell NT510/NT520 can do but the advantage is that it comes loaded with software for all Makes and Models (Asian, European, American).

If you have multiple cars in your family (like me), the “best value” is the Autel Maxidas DS808. At around $680 it covers every make and model.

6. For simple engine diagnosis, emissions readiness, OBD code reader/clearing, freeze frame data, realtime PIDs, logging, gauges, etc., I’d get OBD Fusion and a Bluetooth LE OBD2 interface.

7. I use a combination of the following, based on the need, for my E39, E46, E84, E92:
   – ELM327 Bluetooth LE OBD2 interface with OBD Fusion, Dash Command apps
   – Carly gen2 WiFi OBD adapter and Carly app
   – BMW Scanner 1.4 adapter and software

Definition of Generic and OEM-specific:

OBD access comes in two flavors: Generic and OEM-specific. ALL cars since the late ’90s MUST support “Generic” access. This supports a wide range of generic ENGINE-ONLY codes and VERY basic functions, like clearing faults and resetting the SES light. For many simple repairs, like a mis-fire, this is enough, for many, like turbo faults, it doesn’t even come close. Diagnosing and coding BMW E31 E38 using Foxwell NT510 scanner

I found this Foxwell NT510 scanner chart that shows the specific function per BMW model which is helpful. foxwelltool has NT510 scanner for $179, but I found it on ECS for $199. Seems pretty reasonable for all the readout capability and the coding it claims. Plus you can buy additional software (only $70USD) for one of other manufacturers (Including AU FORD, BMW, Chrysler, Fiat, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Holden, Land Rover, OPEL, Toyota and VAG) as well. One another thing to consider about this tool is that the software updates for it are free for the first 18 months only, and after that only the cost of updates is only 60USD.

I have to use for my BMW E31 and E38. I can speak to ease of use and functionality.

As you can see below chart is Foxwell NT510 Scanner workable function on BMW E31.

Here I list some I tested for your reference.

BMW E31 especially early are going to be very limited on features. This isn’t due to the tools or software used, it’s just the DMEs don’t have the echo commands to provide all the detailed data.

Electronic parking brake reset, SRS reset, and service intervals are the “big 3” packages that our tool has.

As for coding injectors after replacement with Foxwell NT510, it’s an accessible option in the menu list… I haven’t tried it because my injectors are fine but there’s a long list of menus in fuel injection you can mess with. Injector replacement and adaptations were in there and you could access it.

Foxwell NT510 can read out manufacturer specific codes. Most handheld tuners that will also pull codes only pull the basic P codes, not your BMW specific code lines. Now don’t get me wrong P codes are very useful, they’ll send you down the right path (most of the time), but manufacturer specific codes are going to tell you what door to open.

Foxwell unit is a standalone tool, no need for a laptop, this can be a positive or negative depending on the style tool you like to use. If you’re use to a GUI interface on a laptop going to a scan tool style interface will take some getting use to.

Going by a quick look once Foxwell releases the coding update the tools look to have very similar functions. Also no VIN lock on the foxwelll scan tool, use it on as many cars as you’d like.

In conclusion:

Foxwelltool extended us an evaluation copy of this unit and I was really impressed with it. The various functions remind me of the vaunted VAG-COM system we’ve used in Volkswagen & Audi for years. Such a simple and affordable scanner is really a plus for this platform.

Coding BMW E70 using Foxwell NT510 scan and coding tool (Feedback)

I just received one Foxwell NT510 scan and coding tool today, I am working my way through this scan tool and so far I have been relatively impressed.

Played around on my BMW E70 for a bit, covers ABS, Airbag, Electronic Parking Brake, some EWS/CAS, Active Suspension, Service Resets for $179.

ON my E70 I have use Foxwell NT510 codes all sorts of convenience features for things like door locks, windows, tailgate and lighting.

Moreover, OBDII for more than just BMW protocol along with BMW specialized/proprietary codes and Bi-directional control for many modules and systems in the vehicle for testing and troubleshooting purposes. Everything from rolling windows up and down, turning lights on and off and controlling the HVAC/IHKA. Also Live data from many of the subsystems in the vehicle, so switch inputs can be monitored and on newer vehicles with a true TPMS with individual wheel sensors you can see the tire pressure.

With a tool like the Foxwell NT510 Scanner for BMW, all you need to do is keep and interface in the car and you will always have at least an OBDII tool at hand when out on the road.

NT644 compare with NT510: NT644 scanner cannot cover all function of NT500, there are two functions NT644 not support SAS and Bi-directional control tests.

I have a 2010 BMW 335d, 2003 Volvo S40, 2012 Volvo S60, 2004 BMW Z4 2.5L, 2004 Ford Ranger 4.0L and a 1998 Toyota Rav4.

To reset Battery configuration on the BMW 335d, I use foxwell NT4021

To diagnose, I use foxwell AutoMaster NT644.

However NT4021 and NT644 not meet all my demands, I got one Foxwell GT80 $1,200 free shipping (Compared with GT80 Plus, GT80 has no internal battery and with different appearance). What the similarities and differences among NT510, NT624, NT644 and NT414?

Foxwell NT510 function is same as GT80Plus and GT80, it support few car models like 1. Chrysler/GM/Honda, Acura/Hyundai,Kia/Toyota,Lexus, Sicon/Land Rover, Jaguar/OPEL, Vauxhall/VW, AUDI, Seat, Skoda/BMW/Fiat. E.G. Step1: Obtain an FOXWELL ID.

To update Foxwell NT510, you need the following tools:

● TF card reader

   You will find the link right on the top of the softwares.

2.Unzip the application file. Follow instructions on computer screen to install the application and driver.

3. Double click the desktop icon Foxwell NT510 Update-4 to launch the application.
   4. Remove the TF card from the scanner, put it into the card reader and plug the reader into the computer. The TF card is on the left side of scanner.

5.Log in with your Foxwell ID and password.

6. Foxscanner will automatically recognize the serial number and display all available applications, please read it carefully before update. Please note that you are allowed to select and install any one of the vehicle software from the available update list free of charge and in future you are allowed to install updates of the selected brand only.
   In case you want to install any other vehicle software, please contact us or sign in your member center to place an order of buying extra software.
   NOTE:
   If you’ve formatted the TF card, please select your serial number first and all available updates will display.

7.Click the check box(es) in front of the software you wish to update and then click the Update button to download.
NOTE:
Please select the software you want to update, as you can ONLY have access to the update of this brand in the future once it’s been selected initially. To access other brand application, you have to pay to access, Please refer to Section 4 for buying extra software.

8. When Update button is clicked, it begins to download. And you can check the Current Status. If the Current Status shows Downloading, please do not close the update application. Please do not close Foxscanner until it shows Update Done.

If “Update Failed” dialog comes up, it indicates that the software updates failed. Please check the network connection or TF card. If the problem still exists, please contact us.
